Flooded Waymo robotaxis caught on video stranded in LA storms

The recent floods in Los Angeles almost made a pair of Waymos no-mo’.

Onlookers captured video of the self-driving cars stuck in flood waters Monday as heavy rains deluged the city. It wasn’t clear if there were passengers stuck inside the autonomous vehicles or if they eventually made their way out.

One of the cars was seen with its caution lights on as it sat near the intersection of Melrose and Wilcox Avenues.

“Might need to work on that ‘all-weather’ driving,” content creator Samantha Dockser wrote in an Instagram post featuring the clip.

“Hopefully nobody inside,” one viewer wrote in the comments.

Others clever commenters took the opportunity to crack jokes at the waterlogged Waymos.

“Waymo water than I was expecting,” one wrote.

“This passenger clearly ordered the Car-Pool option,” another added.

Waymo previously touted its weather capabilities. The company told KXAN last month that it “closely monitor[s] the conditions” of weather in cities where it operates and that it “will adjust our operations accordingly.”

In a blog post from last year, Waymo said the autonomous vehicle “successfully navigates rain, fog, sandstorms, and freezing temperatures.”

The company did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.

Waymo has faced recent criticism over other issues, like the use of remote operators working in foreign countries.

Its cars weren’t the only autonomous vehicles dealing with wet weather problems.

A food delivery robot from Coco was spotted struggling with flood waters in West Hollywood.

The red bot tried in vain to drive off a sidewalk, wading into the water only to retreat, NBC Los Angeles reported.
