Abu Dhabi expands robotaxi network to new districts

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi has expanded its robotaxi services to include Khalifa City, Masdar City and Rabdan, alongside a new route connecting Abu Dhabi Corniche with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The expansion, announced during the seventh edition of the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX), builds on the service’s performance since its 2021 launch across Yas, Al Saadiyat, Al Reem and Al Maryah Islands, as well as Zayed International Airport.

The service, operated commercially by WeRide and Uber in collaboration with local operator Tawasul Transport, recorded nearly 150% growth in trip numbers during 2025. The autonomous vehicles achieved a 99.9% safety rate across operations.

ITC, an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, confirmed that the next phase will see an expansion of the autonomous vehicle fleet to meet growing demand and support the service’s development.

Working with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council and development partners, ITC continues to strengthen supporting infrastructure for autonomous driving solutions. This includes upgrading monitoring and control systems, enhancing connectivity, and ensuring a safe operating environment for autonomous vehicles.

The expansion reflects Abu Dhabi’s strategy to deliver next-generation transport solutions whilst reducing carbon emissions and improving quality of life across the emirate.

ITC oversees all land, maritime and aviation transport activities across Abu Dhabi, formulating policies aimed at establishing a smart, safe and integrated mobility system. The authority works to harness the latest technologies and sustainability tools to meet future mobility demands whilst supporting the emirate’s urban development objectives.
