Hyundai Mobis develops braking system for autonomous vehicles

The redundancy brake system consists of two electronic brake systems and the ECU. New Delhi: Hyundai Mobis has developed redundancy brake system focusing the autonomous vehicles, which will activate emergency brake system automatically even if the brake fails to work normally due to failure of electrical devices or external shock.

As the company claims in a release, this braking system will enhance the safety of the vehicles, especially self-driving cars .

The company says this redundancy brake system is rated as the state-of-the-art safety technology to proactively prepare for level-4 or higher fully autonomous driving. Autonomous driving is divided into a total of six levels (0-5), and autonomous driving cars must be able to handle emergency situations by themselves at levels 4 and 5.

Once the Hyundai Mobis developed redundancy brake system is applied, the auxiliary brake system is activated in an emergency situation, which makes the car able to reach the destination safely without any emergency situation transpiring.

The redundancy brake system consists of two electronic brake systems and the ECU, which is the controlling unit for them. Also, the software control platform is there. At normal times, the two controllers are connected to each other and exchange data, but if the main brake system is not working normally, the controller detects it and orders the auxiliary brake system to be activated.
