The state of Ohio has partnered with Michigan and Pennsylvania in a multi-state coalition to solicit and deploy a “smart” logistics project to test autonomous trucks that will make deliveries from Pittsburgh through Ohio to Detroit.
DriveOhio, an initiative of the Ohio Department of Transportation charged with developing and deploying automated and connected vehicle technology, and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission are the agencies involved in the coalition.
Locomation, a Pittsburgh-based trucking company that uses robotics technology and artificial intelligence, made a delivery on the turnpike, which runs through south of Cleveland in Northeast Ohio, to Detroit on Oct. 22. Travelling more than 280 miles, the company made a delivery of groceries from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Foodbank to the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Foodbank.
