Smart mobility is coming to Dubai [representational]. PTV Group revealed it was working with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to implement self-driving cars and air taxis across the city, with the German transport and logistics technology company stating that its vehicles would benefit traffic flow, speed, and safety in Dubai, which it described as the “benchmark” for smart mobility.

Commenting on its plans, PTV Middle East’s managing director, Andrea Petti, said: “The flow of people into urban areas of Dubai is increasing all the time and it is vital that people can move in and out of those densely populated areas easily and safely.

“In countries such as the UK and Germany there is a lot of ambition around autonomous vehicles but Dubai is really pioneering and is now a benchmark.

“The decision makers in Dubai are bold and want to meet challenges with the most innovative approach possible.

“It is a very exciting time for Dubai’s development and we are looking at sharing some of these results in the coming months.”

  1. Man-made islands, eccentric building designs, deserts turned into metropolis. Now, Dubai wants to be the pioneer in self-driving cars and even air taxis. Now, that is really very impressive. “Bold” is really the right adjective for Dubai decision makers in every industry.
