Stellantis, Wayve, and Uber reach agreement to develop robotaxis

ROME, June 17 (ITALPRESS/GNA) – Stellantis, Wayve, and Uber have announced a collaboration to jointly explore the development and global deployment of Level 4 (driverless) robotaxis.

The collaboration combines Stellantis’ L4-Ready Platforms, Wayve’s AI-powered driving technology, and Uber’s global platform to support a new generation of fully autonomous vehicles.

The initiative builds on existing strategic collaborations between the companies, including Stellantis and Wayve’s recent L2++ agreement and Wayve and Uber’s partnership to deploy autonomous mobility services in London, Tokyo, and ten other cities worldwide starting this year.

Stellantis will design, develop, and mass-produce vehicles based on the L4-Ready Platforms, equipped with integrated sensor systems and designed to meet the operational, safety, and redundancy requirements necessary for high-use intensity driverless operations.

Wayve will provide AI-powered driving software capable of perceiving and operating in complex real-world environments fully autonomously.

Based on Wayve’s end-to-end approach, the technology is designed to adapt to different geographies and driving conditions without the need for mapping or area-specific adaptations, enabling faster and more cost-effective expansion.

Uber will deploy these autonomous vehicles across its global mobility network, enabling access to self-driving rides via the Uber app and helping scale operations across markets.

“This collaboration brings us closer to our goal of offering our customers smarter, safer, and more efficient mobility,” said Ned Curic, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Stellantis.

“By combining our L4-Ready Platforms, designed from the ground up for safe and efficient driverless operations, with Wayve’s adaptive AI and Uber’s global network, we are accelerating the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles that address real customer needs, enabling simple, integrated, and scalable mobility in everyday life,” he added.

“This collaboration brings together three leaders, each with their own unique strengths: Stellantis’ vehicle expertise, Uber’s global mobility platform, and Wayve’s AI,” said Kaity Fischer, VP of Commercial & Operations at Wayve.

“Successfully scaling autonomous mobility means effectively integrating vehicles, technology, and platform. Together with Stellantis and Wayve, we are excited to bring safe and reliable autonomous mobility services to more users around the world,” said Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber.

As part of this collaboration, the companies intend to work on vehicle integration, testing, validation, and deployment, with the goal of offering safe, reliable, and scalable autonomous mobility services in cities across Europe, North America, and beyond.
