Ford introduces BlueCruise autonomous driving technology for the updated Kuga

Ford introduced the BlueCruise autonomous driving technology for the updated Kuga crossover in European specification.

What is known

BlueCruise became the first such system to receive regulatory approval in Europe when it debuted on the Ford Mustang Mach-E in 2023. Now the technology will appear in one of the brand’s most popular family vehicles.

BlueCruise is a system operating on the principle of “hands-free, eyes on the road.” It allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel when driving in specially designated Blue Zones. These zones cover approximately 95% of highways in 16 European countries.

Enhancing Kuga’s adaptive cruise control capabilities, BlueCruise manages steering, acceleration, braking, and lane keeping. The system maintains a safe distance from other vehicles both on high-speed highways and in “stop-start” mode in traffic jams.

BlueCruise will be available on the Kuga with automatic transmission starting in April. The technology is included in the Driver Assistance Pack, standard for the ST-Line X and Active X trims, and is also available as an option for the Titanium and ST-Line versions.

Ford offers several options for access to the technology: a one-time purchase or monthly and annual plans for those who want to test the system or need autopilot only at certain times of the year, such as during summer vacations or for frequent business trips. All Kugas with BlueCruise support receive a three-month trial period.
