Driverless rides are heading to Las Vegas and will soon be hitting the Los Angeles area by next year
The Las Vegas Strip will be the first to try out Amazon’s driverless taxi services this summer but can be expected next year for Los Angeles residents to give a spin as well.
Amazon and Zoox have joined forces for a multiyear partnership in which they plan to provide driverless services to L.A. by next year. To get a ride in either city, you will simply have to download the Uber app and request Zoox transportation.
The autonomous vehicle company sent out a small number of test cars back in 2025. Each had a safety driver while being tested to see if it was suitable to go out on the road. From this test, a majority of the cars were ready to get to work.
The company states that the vehicle is not based on the driver but the experience of the passenger. They are meant to mimic a subway car with its box-like shape and its sliding doors on either side. Passengers will also find that there is no driver’s seat; rather, the passenger seats all face toward the middle so individuals can look at each other.
The reason for this partnership was so that Zoox could compete to Waymo. This company has already surpassed 400,000 weekly rides in a total of six cities- including Los Angeles.
Over the past year, Zoox has began their services in Las Vegas and introduced its Zoox Explorers Program to the city of San Francisco. They are also planning to roll out to areas such as Austin and Miami, along with Dallas. Zoox has also begun testing in Arizona.
