Adlink, Foxconn team up for automated driving system

Industrial computing device maker Adlink Technology has teamed up with Foxconn Electronics for developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology, according to company chairman and CEO Jim Liu.

Besides jointly developing automated driving systems (ADS), both sides have established FARobot, a joint venture for developing autonomous mobile robot (AMR) solutions, Liu said.

EVs can be regarded as extension of AMRs, with the difference being: EVs carry people and ARMs goods; EVs run much faster than AMRs; EVs run on roads and AMRs move in closed environment such as factories or industrial parks, Liu explained.

Adlink is a charter member of MIH, an open hardware/software-integrated platform for developing EVs established by Foxconn. Using its edge computing technology and DDS (data distribution service) know-how, Adlink will work with Foxconn to capitalize on MIH to develop Level 4 autonomous driving technology based on drive-by-wire technology and plans to unveil achievement regarding hardware/software integration of EV chassis in second-half 2021, Liu noted, adding POC (proof of concept) for Level 4 autonomous driving technology is underway.

Viewing that edge computing is essential for autonomous vehicles, Adlink has made efforts to step into development of autonomous driving technology. Adlink and Japan-based self-driving software developer Tier IV have partnered with intelligent vehicle platform provider AutoCore for collaboration to provide scalable middleware used in autonomous vehicles.

Adlink is among the sponsors of Indy Autonomous Challenge, the world’s first autonomous car racing.
