At the 2022 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area International Auto Show on May 28, DeepRoute.ai, an autonomous driving (AD) solutions provider, revealed that its lidar product can reduce costs to less than $10,000 per vehicle following mass production.

Firm CEO Maxwell Zhou said at the event that, in addition to building safe and reliable technology, there are still many problems to be solved to realize the mass production of AD. Specifically, how to reduce costs and increase efficiency is the most practical problem. DeepRoute-Driver 2.0 currently costs less than $10,000. On the basis of ensuring system performance, after large-scale cooperation with car companies, the cost of a whole AD system can be reduced by 70%.

According to the company, DeepRoute.ai’s factory-installed AD solution has two to five solid-state lidars and eight cameras embedded in the car body, and all the sensors have passed auto-grade high-temperature and waterproof tests. In the future, the sensor configuration can also be adapted according to the design requirements of car factories. In terms of computing power, DeepRoute-Driver 2.0 adopts the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin auto-grade chip, combined with independently developed inference engine technology, while the overall power consumption of the computing platform has been reduced to 150 watts.

On April 20, DeepRoute.ai first batch of L4 AD factory-installed fleets started operation in Shenzhen. Adopting DeepRoute-Driver 2.0, the fleet consists of 30 vehicles, which have now been put into Robotaxi operations. According to DeepRoute.ai, this is the lowest cost L4 AD solution in the industry at present.
