Mobility device manufacturer Alba Robot has launched two models of autonomous vehicles designed to be used by people with limited mobility for indoor spaces and pedestrian areas.
Earlier this month, the supplier, which aims to integrate advanced technology with modern designs built with sustainable materials, launched its products at the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, a trade fair in Dubai dedicated to information and communication technologies.
Andrea Bertaia, CEO and Co-founder of Alba Robot, said: “We presented our two new projects, conceived to facilitate the indoor transportation of PRM (People with Reduced Mobility). Technology finally encounters design: as much as our first goal is to offer innovative solutions, we also believe that personal mobility vehicles should be aesthetically attractive”.
During the last year, the need to find an alternative to manual pushing for the indoor transportation became clear to the team at Alba Robot, it stated. Using micro mobility platforms, it aims to transform the indoor transportation of PRM (People with Reduced Mobility) within facilities such as hospitals and airports.
Alba Robot allows people to move easily and independently within the airport spaces, as the wheelchair moves automatically, and prevents the need of physical effort from the user. Passengers can go through the different areas, from check-in to gate throughout the different shops and services, while always being safe and informed.
The devices also support patients using wheelchairs in hospital to move between different rooms and wards, helping them and the caregivers with their needs. Sensors and cameras make the experience on Alba Robot safe and innovative for users and efficient and fast for hospital managers.
Alba Robot can also be used within museums to allow visitors to enjoy the visit without any effort in moving around the exhibiting spaces.
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including autonomous driving and loT, a self-driving vehicle refers to a driverless vehicle that uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to function – already integrated in past Alba vehicles – has been further developed and “dressed” with style.
The new model of the device is co-branded with Italdesign, a design and engineering company and brand based in Moncalieri, Italy.

A more recent project at Alba is a vehicle designed for smaller indoor spaces, which aims to provide alternatives with assisted or autonomous driving technologies to improve the transportation of PRM. The project involves a continuous search of performing and sustainable materials in collaboration with Politecnico di Torino for the study and development of new technologies and innovative materials.
