Technology company Aurora will work with Schneider to pilot a new autonomous freight hauling program using its Aurora Driver technology.
The pilot will see trucks equipped with self-driving capabilities haul freight between Dallas and Houston in the US. Aurora vehicle operators will remain on board the trucks for the pilot.
Schneider hauls 9.3 million miles a day in the US and is interested in the opportunities autonomous driving technology could provide for their customers.
“Understanding more about an autonomous future is the logical next step to build a network that continues to deliver the best service for our customers,” says Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Schneider, Rob Reich.
The pilot will give Aurora a chance to prepare for the launch of their subscription-based autonomous trucking product Aurora Horizon.
“Schneider has a reputation for delivering consistent and reliable service, evidenced by the sheer number of Fortune 500 customers. Preparing Aurora Horizon for prime time with Schneider spring loads our ability to deploy our product at scale in the years to come,” says Aurora’s Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Sterling Anderson.
