Embark Trucks has announced that it will use Nvidia Drive autonomous vehicle compute platform solutions to power its Embark Universal Interface (EUI) and Embark Driver software.
As part of a four-year deal with Nvidia, Embark will equip its test fleet with the high-performance, and energy-efficient, automotive-grade compute architecture required to scale and integrate the platform within carriers’ fleets.
The EUI is OEM-agnostic and will, the company says, enable carriers to start trialling and deploying Embark self-driving software on trucks from their preferred manufacturer.
Featuring a set of standardized self-driving components, the EUI will provide the flexible interface necessary to easily and robustly integrate Embark’s autonomous technology into a range of OEM truck platforms.
At present, Embark’s Universal Interface is being developed for four truck OEMs, Freightliner, Navistar International, PACCAR and Volvo.
“In order to meet the high safety and performance standards demanded by the Embark Driver software via the EUI, we need an enormous amount of compute power in our trucks,” commented Ajith Dasari, head of hardware platform at Embark. “The Nvidia Drive platform meets this need head-on, and allows us to outfit our partners and customers with the best self-driving hardware and software currently on the market.”
